THE PROGRAMS
Energy Assistance Program
The Energy Assistance Program
helps qualified Nevadans reduce their home energy bills by making payments
directly to the energy company on the consumer's behalf. Last year, approximately 18,000 households participated in the program, receiving an average energy assistance benefit of about $800. Funding for the
program is provided from the LIHEAP block grant through the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services and from Universal Energy Charge
(UEC) monies distributed through the Nevada Fund for Energy Assistance
and Conservation.
Weatherization
Assistance Program
The Weatherization Assistance
Program helps qualified Nevadans reduce their energy bills by helping
them improve the energy efficiency of their home. This assistance could
come in the form of added insulation, weather stripping, and minor home
repairs. This year the average household participating in this program
is expected to receive $2,500 in weatherization benefits. The program is
funded primarily by the U.S. Department of Energy, with other
contributions coming from Nevada's Fund for Energy Assistance &
Conservation.
